Feels school taxes already too high

Perhaps it is time for the people of Oak Park to sit down and compare the newly received Ventura County tax bill for 20082009 against the 20072008 tax bill.

Buildings do need to be repaired, books and computers do need to be replaced. But again, the Oak Park Unified School District wants us to tax ourselves.

It has been said that the enrollment in our school district is down. The district accepts students from other areas. How about an assessment of the parents of those students. If we were a condominium association, that is what they would do. Those parents should pay their fair share.

There is another segment of the population that people often forget about. It is called the senior citizens, those over 65 and in our case over 70. Believe it or not, Oak Park does have seniors. With home values in decline and investments going south we are being squeezed as never before. Our years of seeking employment are long passed.

The time has come to acknowledge that it is important to reject any more tax increases. Dick Bowen Oak Park
