Winners recognized for Reyes Adobe Days

Mayor John Edelston looks on. The city of Agoura Hills has announced the award winners for the fourth annual Reyes Adobe Days. Trophies and medals were given to individuals, businesses and community organizations who participated in the festival.

This year the Community Service Superstar Award category for local students was added.

Among the winning entries from the Reyes Adobe Days parade was the Los Angeles County Sheriff 's Search and Rescue Team.

Other award-winning parade entries were: business entry, Agoura Hills Senior Retreat; nonprofit entry, city of Agoura Hills' The Future is in Our Hands; school entry, Agoura Hills High School Blue Crew; and equestrian entry, Old Agoura Rangers and Friends.

As part of Reyes Adobe Days, the city held a RAD Kid challenge for students ages 5 to 18.

Children were invited to compete in their age category by describing how they are involved in the city or demonstrating their knowledge of local history.

The winners were 12thgrade Agoura High School student Quincy Kayton, sixthgrade Lindero Canyon Middle School student Austin Mensch, third-grade Sumac Elementary School student Hunter Pearson and second-grade Yerba Buena Elementary School student Carly Friedlander.

Hundreds of runners turned out for the 5K and Family Fun Run. Jonathan Beanblossom, 19, from Valencia, took first place in the RAD 5K run, with a time of 17 minutes and 50 seconds. Horacio Pena, in the 30 to 39 age group, placed second.

Overall female winner Jennifer Todd, also in the age 30 to 39 age group, clocked in at 19 minutes and 55 seconds.

Takumi Matsuda of Agoura Hills won first place in the family run.
