Stagecoach to stop at Leonis Adobe

The Leonis Adobe Museum in Calabasas will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Butterfield Overland Mail Stage in the San Fernando Valley on Sun., Oct. 19.

This event is in conjunction with the Campo de Cahuenga Historical Memorial Association, California State Parks, Los Encinos Docents, Tarzana Community Kids Club and the Calabasas Historical Society.

The stagecoach first traveled from St. Louis to the Los Angeles area in fall 1858. After this historic feat, regular mail delivery began along this route.

To observe this event, an 1858 stagecoach with four horses will travel from the Campo nearly 19 miles along Ventura Boulevard to the Leonis Adobe. Celebrations are being planned at each stop along the way.

The stagecoach is scheduled to arrive at Leonis Adobe at about 5 p.m., subject to change.

Activities are being planned at the Leonis Adobe at 23537 Calabasas Road, Calabasas when the stage arrives. The event is free and open to the public.
