New West Symphony appoints vice president, board members

Former professor Timothy Smith takes reins

The New West Symphony announces the appointment of Timothy Smith as vice president of the board of directors for the Conejo Valley area.

Smith is a founding partner of Advance Insurance Solutions in Westlake Village. He formerly was a professor at Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula and holds a doctorate from University of Notre Dame.

"I'm pleased to be able to serve the symphony in this leadership capacity," Smith said. "The New West Symphony is an important cultural asset in the community and the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. I will be working to expand our engagement with the community and ensure that the Symphony continues to be a centerpiece of culture in Ventura County."

New directors recently elected to the board include: Carl Albert, Los Angeles; Pat Croner, Westlake Village; Capt. David Fleisch (ex officio), Ventura; Kenneth Madick, Encino; Cynthia Moore, Los Angeles; David Newsome, Westlake Village; Marilyn Sutton, Westlake Village; Terrence Towner, Ventura; Milton Widelitz, Los Angeles, and Kim Woods, Agoura Hills.

The New West Symphony features 75 professional musicians under the direction of music director Boris Brott and has performance venues in Oxnard, Thousand Oaks and Santa Monica.
