Matthew Koart

California homebuilding firm Shapell Industries, Inc. announced that Matthew Koart has been appointed chief executive officer.

Vera Guerin, Shapell Industries' board member said, "He brings to this company unparalleled leadership experience and vast knowledge of the homebuilding industry as well as the skills required to ensure our continued growth and success."

Koart has spent 15 years as a homebuilding executive in California, first with KB Home, then with Pulte Homes for the past 12 years, where he has served in senior management positions covering the California and Nevada markets. Koart holds a law degree from USC and has worked as a real estate attorney.

Established in 1955, Shapell Industries, Inc. has overseen the construction of more than 64,000 new homes. Operating as S&S Construction Co. in southern California and Shapell Homes in northern California, the group has earned a reputation as the state's building pioneer.
