Girls' volleyball teams from TVL earn voters' respect

A trio of Tri-Valley League girls' volleyball teams has cracked the top 5 in the latest CIF-Southern Section Division II-A coaches' poll released Monday.

Oak Park High is ranked third in the division, followed by Oaks Christian (No. 4) and La Reina (No. 5). League play began Tuesday night with Oak Park beating Malibu, OCHS taking out Carpinteria and La Reina getting past St. Bonaventure.

In Division IAA girls' volleyball, Thousand Oaks was the only local squad to be ranked, with the Lancers coming in at No. 7. TOHS defeated Agoura in Tuesday's Marmonte League opener.

Viewpoint earned the No. 2 spot in the Division IV-AA poll, while Grace Brethren is No. 6 in Division IV-A.

In girls' tennis, Viewpoint remains the topranked team in Division V.

Moving on to girls' cross country, La Reina and Oaks Christian both landed in the top 10 in the Division IV coaches' poll. The Regents, in fact, are No. 1 in the division. Oaks Christian is sixth.

In girls' Division II, Simi Valley is sixth and Newbury Park eighth. The Oak Park girls' cross country team is rated No. 3 in Division III, while Agoura is sixth in the same division.

The Thousand Oaks boys' cross country squad has climbed to No. 3 in the Division II coaches' poll. The Lancers' rivals from Westlake are right on their heels at No. 5. Another Marmonte League contender, Agoura, is ranked seventh in Division III.

Oaks Christian's boys are No. 8 in Division IV.

On the football field, four Marmonte League teams occupy the top six spots in the CIF-SS Northern Division coaches' poll.

Newbury Park is second, followed by Thousand Oaks (No. 4), Westlake (No. 5) and Moorpark (No. 6). In addition to the Marmonte, only the Foothill League has more than one team in the top 10.

Oaks Christian continues to be the top dog in the Northwest Division. The 3-0 Lions have maintained their No. 1 position all season. Oak Park, which was blown out by Royal last weekend, slipped from fourth to tenth.

Boys' water polo rankings were not released this week.
