Residents get inside look at sheriff's station during open house

Local residents will have the chance to get locked up in jail, meet the K-9 unit and find out how officers at the Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in Agoura Hills handle a variety of emergencies and crimes at the station's open house on Sat., Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 27050 Agoura Road.

The open house will feature displays and demonstrations, including the chance to sit in a sheriff 's helicopter and police car. Bill Chaffin, driver of the Team Sheriff Racing Drag Race Car, will show off his special vehicle.

The sheriff 's arson and explosives unit and SWAT will speak to the public during the open house, and the K-9 unit will introduce the narcoticssniffing dogs.

Other units planning to make an appearance at the event are the sheriff 's mounted posse equine team, the reserve mountain rescue team, and the STAR (Success Through Awareness and Resistance) team.

Families can also learn about disaster preparedness during the day.

Food and beverages will be available. Parking will be available across the street from the station.
