Calabasas regulates mobil car washes
      The Calabasas City Council adopted an ordinance regulating mobile carwash operations within the city of Calabasas. The ordinance, which goes into effect later this month, requires mobile carwash businesses to obtain permits from the city and follow certain regulations to prevent pollutants from entering the storm drain system.

Car meets demise when old tree crashes down
      TO THE POINT— A car belonging to Craig and Diane Heinberg is destroyed by an oak tree that fell recently. The family lives on Chesebro Road in Old Agoura. Nobody was injured. It's not known whether the tree fell because it was diseased or because of some other factor. Beetles and fungi can also contribute to the death of an oak tree.

Foundation donates to women's programs
      The Ventura County Community Foundation's Women's Legacy Fund has awarded nine grants totaling $66,000 to programs for women and girls in Ventura County. The grants were awarded to programs which focus on domestic violence prevention and service programs, and programs that provide education, training and economic opportunities for women and girls.

Composer scores again
      THEY'RE SINGING HIS SONG— Composer and Agoura Hills resident Jeff Beal displays his Emmy Award, which he received for Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or Special for his original score to "The Company." It was Beal's eighth Emmy nomination and third win. Beal also wrote the score for the upcoming film "Appaloosa," directed by Ed Harris.
