College fair scheduled at Agoura High

More than 60 two and fouryear colleges and universities, vocational schools and military academies will participate in the annual Las Virgenes Unified School District's College Night from 7 to 9 p.m. Tues., Sept. 16 in the gymnasium at Agoura High School.

The college fair is open to all local students and their families, including the Oak Park community, said Jean Gilbert Hawkins, Agoura High's college and career adviser.

About 1,000 people are expected to attend, Hawkins said.

"We are encouraging our parents and students to browse through the college material available and meet admissions and alumni representatives, as well as talk with the SAT test prep vendors who will also be there," she said.

All branches of the Armed Services, as well as representatives from military academies, have been invited to the event, Hawkins said.

Middle school students are being encouraged to get a head start on college planning this year. Hawkins said this is the first year that eighth-grade students and their parents from the district's three middle schools have been invited to attend the fair. She said Medea Creek Middle School families in Oak Park are also welcome.

The event is designed to inform and inspire students to continue their education after high school, Hawkins said. The fair has rotated between Agoura, Calabasas and Oak Park high schools for three years.
