Pedestrians at risk

I don't know how many pedestrian fatalities in a community are needed to consider it a regular occurrence, but two since June 2007 in the same corridor seems a bit too regular for this pedestrian.

How many near collisions have there been? I encounter near hits every couple of months with the majority happening when I am in one of our many signaled crosswalks with the green light in my favor.

There is one area of Sunnycrest where I am fully prepared to dive into the brush for fear that a speeding motorist will not make the curve successfully.

A recent accident in that area could have taken other lives if the residents of the home had been enjoying their front yard with their children as they often times do.

Traffic violations are a problem and they have become a regular occurrence in our small community.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Karey Marsh. Let's not slough it over as a reminder of traffic safety without addressing the issues. Dani Brusius Oak Park
