Dogs at Agoura's Chumash Park are running amok I hadn't realized that Chumash Park in Agoura is the new designated bark park for dogs off leash. Perhaps the Agoura City Council should remove the three signs posted around the park stating that dogs should be leashed at all times and their feces cleaned up, as it obviously is not correct. I have counted up to 12 dogs running around off leash at one time, including a Doberman and a Rottweiler. This will let the sports teams who use the park on a daily basis know that their members will be running through dog feces when they play. Their uniforms and shoes must be a joy to clean. It will also alert the parents of young children using the playground that their children are not safe playing in a public park. Not only will large hunting dogs be running loose, their feces will be creating health hazards for children through transmittable diseases, worms, etc. It will also give drivers notice that even more confusion with the traffic/parking will be created when dogs are running loose onto the road. It is a great pity that a local public park is being misused by a group of irresponsible dog owners. The Council spends local tax money keeping the park clean and tidy for everyone. Whether it be free musical concerts in the park, sports events, camp activities during summer, family picnics, or dog walking on leash, everyone is entitled to a clean park without dogs on the loose. Incidentally, the workers who are out there every morning manicuring the playground, emptying the bins, cutting the grass and keeping the park pristine do a fantastic job. They should be congratulated for their hard work in making our parks beautiful. Traci Craig Agoura Hills |
