Lack of sprinklers puts club in danger

A sincere thanks to Los Angeles deputies for enforcing the law on underage drinking at the Chapter 8 nightclub ("Sting by sheriff's department results in 21 citations," Aug. 14).

However, the main risk this establishment poses to its patrons was not mentioned. Chapter 8 is a nightclub without a sprinkler system. In numerous tragedies worldwide, the formula for disaster has been a crowded dance floor, alcohol use and lack of a fire suppression system. All three of these elements are present at Chapter 8. There sits within our city a potential calamity—but this need not be.

In order to operate the nightclub, Chapter 8 needs from the city of Agoura Hills a conditional use permit. One of the conditions for operation should be the installation of a modern fire sprinkler system.

Our teens and young adults deserve this protection. As a city we should do no less. Jack Koenig Agoura Hills

Poll

Should the city of Agoura Hills cut remaining ties with the Agoura/Oak Park/Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and join the Thousand Oaks/Westlake Village Regional Chamber of Commerce?
