Pedestrians at risk
I don't know how many pedestrian fatalities in a community are needed to consider it a regular occurrence, but two since June 2007 in the same corridor seems a bit too regular for this pedestrian. How many near collisions have there been?

Outside influence
While Glen Wilcox continues to paint children as "freeloaders," he fails to recognize that he is also unwilling to "buy the cow." Glen Wilcox does not wish to "buy the cow," according to Elvis, but rather "get the milk through the fence," because he doesn't want to pay to maintain our schools, which maintains property values and Oak Park's desirable reputation.

Out-of-area students needed
In complaining about "freeloaders" (Aug. 28), Glen Wilcox fails to understand what is needed to offer a comprehensive educational program in Oak Park schools. A number of academic classes could not be offered at Oak Park High School, for example, unless there was sufficient enrollment to justify those classes.

Lack of sprinklers puts club in danger
A sincere thanks to Los Angeles deputies for enforcing the law on underage drinking at the Chapter 8 nightclub ("Sting by sheriff's department results in 21 citations," Aug. 14). However, the main risk this establishment poses to its patrons was not mentioned. Chapter 8 is a nightclub without a sprinkler system.

Community needs its theater
Thank you, Stephanie Bertholdo, for alerting the fans of the beloved Agoura Hill's Stage Door Theatre of its coming demise in your Aug. 21 article. This was indeed a public service an nouncement and a shock to those of us who had no knowledge of the problems that this little theater and its caring owners faced.

The end of era
Many years ago, after graduating from theater school, I arrived in Los Angeles as so many other young, trained actors do each year. I worked hard, continued to study hard and pursued a passion that was instilled in me from the minute I first stepped on a stage. I found some success financially, but mostly my love for live theater kept my passion alive.

Dogs at Agoura's Chumash Park are running amok
I hadn't realized that Chumash Park in Agoura is the new designated bark park for dogs off leash. Perhaps the Agoura City Council should remove the three signs posted around the park stating that dogs should be leashed at all times and their feces cleaned up, as it obviously is not correct.

Where have all the coaches gone?
I've been coaching youth sports for several years. The fantastic programs like WAGS, AYSO, and AYBA have dedicated boards of directors who are both women and men. I've often wondered, though, where are the women head coaches? Out of 20 girls' U12 soccer teams in Region 4 this year, there are no female head coaches.

The giver
I ran into Roy Laviolette not more than a week or so ago at Albertsons. He was walking toward me ever so slowly when he grabbed my arm, leaned up against me and held on to me firmly. "I'm sorry," he said. "I felt a little dizzy." I looked into his eyes and said, "That's okay, even 55year-olds get a little dizzy once in a while.
