Parents of Agoura High freshmen learn system Parents of incoming ninthgrade students at Agoura High School—or parents of new students at any grade level—will find out how to navigate the various Las Virgenes educational services at the high school's second annual, "Parent Town Hall Meeting" next month. The meeting will be at 7 p.m., Wed., Sept. 10 in the Agoura High G-building. Parents will find out who they should contact when they have questions or when other issues or problems arise. The purpose of the school's support period will be discussed, and parents will also learn the best way to communicate with their child's teacher. Other topics include where to park when dropping off or picking up a student, how to check a student out of school early, how to follow the online grading system and other school-related Internet services. "While these students will be learning about Agoura High on the first day of school through LINK Crew activities, school administrators and the Parent-Faculty Club feel there is a need to also give the parents an orientation on the nuts and bolts of high school," said Jodi Regan, chair of the school's parent education committee. LINK Crew is a program that began two years ago at the high school to help eighthgrade students make an easier transition from middle to high school. Regan said the September meeting will help parents feel comfortable with the new school environment. Parents will forge a communication link with teachers and other members of the faculty, she said. Parents will also hear tips about teaching their children to advocate for themselves. At the meeting, Regan and other AHS teachers and counselors will be joined by AHS principal Larry Misel and assistant principals Sherry Bronow, Chris Regan and Jeremy Resnick. Space is limited, and reservations are encouraged, Regan said. For more information, call the school at (818) 889-1262 or visit www.agourahighschool.net. |
