Moorpark College history professor wins award

Moorpark College recently named history professor Ranford Hopkins as the 12th recipient of the annual Distinguished Faculty Chair award.

Criteria for the award are excellence in teaching and service to the college and community.

Each year the Moorpark College Foundation inaugurates a $500 scholarship to honor the award winner. Hopkins will establish his scholarship's criteria, and it will be awarded for the first time in May 2009.

Hopkins teaches African American history, social and political history of the U.S. and history of the U.S., an honors course. He has a master's degree from UC Santa Barbara and has been teaching full-time at Moorpark College since 1989.
