Speed bumps cause animosity Mr. Bird of Adamore Road writes to complain about motorists who are forced to brake and then accelerate around speed bumps. I live in Mr. Bird's neighborhood. Mr. Bird is an individual who has made a practice of harassing motorists over the years on Adamore Road by standing in or near the street waving at them, getting in his car and chasing down neighbors and confronting them in a rude and threatening manner. My wife had this very experience inflicted upon her by Mr. Bird a few years back. The speed bumps were not always there. The speed bumps were planted in our neighborhood by the authorities, apparently without consultation with, or approval of, the neighborhood, but probably yielding to a few loud voices like Mr. Bird. It seems ironic that Mr. Bird has a speed bump planted directly in front of his house, and another one approximately 50 yards down the road. It is street justice that he now suffers the expected consequences. The sign announcing the speed bumps indicates that the safe speed is 15 miles per hour. Now Mr. Bird has finally come to the realization that speed bumps are noisy for the residents and abusive to the automobiles that must traverse them in many ways, including brake wear, suspension wear, and unnecessary use of gasoline by continuous acceleration and deceleration. The solution: remove the unnecessary speed bumps. Donald Stricklin Calabasas |
