Snakes alive, let's keep it that way

I was saddened but not surprised by the picture/story in the Aug. 7 Acorn regarding the rattlesnake pictured and now dead, thanks to the Tom family.

I have lived in a wildlife canyon for five years in Calabasas and four years prior to that in a property close by wildlife in Calabasas.

I have had my rattlesnake wrangler Bo (that's his job) out here four times for myself and called on behalf of neighbors when a rattlesnake came too close to our homes, yard, and front steps. The first thing he taught me when he captured and relocated Queenie, a 36-inch rattler he caught in my yard, was that he can't kill all of God's creatures.

We are in their yard, not the other way around. Queenie is now a movie star and also works to educate people about the snakes. I have never seen Bo kill a snake and when he takes them out of our populated midst he relocates them to an area where they are safe from the people.

Get rid of your ignorance. Supervise your children and never let pets out, especially in summer months, without your constant supervision. Are you going to start killing all the coyotes, too, because of the presence of kids and pets?
