Local Olympians going for gold in Beijing
      Opening Ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics are set for Friday night. Here's a quick look at the local athletes who will participate in the Games: Deena Drossin Kastor, women's distance running: The 35-year-old Agoura High graduate will be competing in her third Olympics, having earned a bronze medal in the women's marathon at the 2004 Athens Games.

USA Men's Water Polo team ready to make a big splash
      The USA Men's Water Polo team, led by head coach Terry Schroeder, a Westlake Village resident, begins its pursuit of a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing on Sunday with a first-round match against China. USA then faces Italy on Tuesday and powerhouse Croatia on Sat., Aug. 16.

      An Agoura High grad won the Simi Valley City Amateur Golf Championships last Sunday at Simi Hills Golf Course. Russell Boring, 19, defeated Kevin Coghlan of Carlsbad in the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff to claim the title.
