Now we must pay for 911 calls On June 26, I witnessed a child abduction and called 911 here in Agoura Hills. I commend the Lost Hills Sheriff's Department for acting as fast as they did. They apprehended the car and persons involved on the 101 at Parkway Calabasas. What's distrubing is that I was charged for calling 911. It wasn't the money, it's the principle. When I called Verizon Wireless to ask why would anyone be charged for calling in an emergency, I was told that it had nothing to do with Verizon Wireless. The state of California requires the charge. How pathetic. State of California, shame on you. Linda Jorgensen Agoura Hills Editor's note: Almost two dozen California cities now have 911 charges. In Ventura, if a resident opts out of the $1.49 monthly fee, they must pay $50 for each 911 call. |
