Don't feed the squirrels

You are sending the wrong message when you publish a photo and story about feeding a wild squirrel in a campground ("Squirrel of the Month").

I'm sure Ida Clark meant no harm, but campgrounds such as McGrath State Beach become overpopulated with squirrels because of intentional feeding and careless storage of food.

These cute, fuzzy creatures can carry bubonic plague which breaks out sporadically in campgrounds, causing closure and even eradication of the "squirrel of the month."

Please help keep wildlife "wild" and in balance with the rest of nature by not feeding, just observing. Elizabeth Saide Westlake Village
