Aliyah welcomes new assistant rabbi
      Gary Oren was in his 30s before he knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. After years of searching, analyzing and working in various jobs, he decided to become a rabbi. Oren was recently ordained and named assistant rabbi for Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills.

      The following young people recently became bar or bat mitzvah at Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks. • Alyssa Scott was called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on June 14. Alyssa will be an eighth-grade honor student at Medea Creek Middle School. She is the daughter of Julie and Gary Scott of Oak Park.
