Teammates, always For the past 22 years, Tuesdays with Murray Wald and Bill Locklear were spent at Baseball City in Agoura Hills. But when the Baseball City batting cages closed on July 31, the longtime friends were forced to come up with a new game plan. The baseball pals would meet weekly at 5:30 p.m. to take their swings in the 70 mph cage and shoot the breeze as the fastballs whizzed by. Locklear, 79, is the father of actress Heather Locklear, and Wald, 85, played the saxophone with the Glenn Miller Band in 1943 and 1944. The friends met 27 years ago through Locklear's art framing business in Woodland Hills, Wald said. "It was something we both thought would be fun to do," said Locklear, a Westlake Village resident. Over the years, other friends would join them for the Tuesday afternoon batting session. "The feel was wonderful," said Wald, who now lives in Camarillo. "We're sorry to see (the owners) go." "This is where we got together every week," Locklear said. Wald and Locklear plan to take their game to the Bat-R-Up batting cages in Camarillo where the owner has agreed to keep a slot open—every Tuesday afternoon. |
