The fine art of teaching art

Based on traditional values and the belief that art is learned rather than just a talent one is born with, the California Art Institute of Westlake Village is sending students into the art world with a better understanding of their skills and abilities.

The school was established in Calabasas in 1983 and moved to Westlake in 1994.

The school's three-hour day and evening classes offer a wide range of instruction, including sculpting and cartooning, with drawing as the main focus. And studnets can can draw well as they can paint well, according to the school's philosophy.

The basics of draftmanship and design are stressed. Individualized instruction allows students to work at their own pace, yet beginners are allowed to derive the benefits of working in the same classes with advanced artists.

The institute also houses a gallery to display student work. For information, call (805) 496-6906.
