New mammography system installed

West Hills Hospital and Medical Center has added a new digital mammography system. The hospital has also made Saturday appointments available.

Digital mammography takes half the time of traditional, filmbased exams. Scheduled appointments can take less than 30 minutes.

Digital mammography fits all breast shapes and sizes, and has improved visibility for dense breast tissue. It also requires fewer return visits because radiologists can make immediate decisions about whether or not additional images are necessary.

Digital mammography allows radiologists to view and manipulate images on high-resolution monitors that enhance visualization of the structures within the breast tissue. Radiologists are able to adjust brightness and contrast, zooming in on specific areas to help detect small calcifications, masses and other changes that may be signs of early cancer.

The West Hills Hospital Women's Diagnostic Center offers a full range of women's imaging services in one location, including digital mammography screenings and diagnostics, bone densitometry, breast ultrasound and stereotactic core breast biopsies.
