Ventura County Fair features family-fun attractions

First time for on-site wine garden

The Ventura County Fair is open through Aug. 10 at the fairgrounds beside Seaside Park, Ventura.

Attractions include the Ferris wheel, cotton candy, floriculture displays, junior livestock auction, and headliner grandstand entertainment, which is included in price of admission.

For the first time, the fair will have a wine garden sponsored by Shell Vacations Club. The garden includes local wines from Herzog Wine Cellars and the Ventura County Wine Trail.

The Agriculture Department is hosting a scarecrow contest for the first time. Children and adults will dress up straw people.

Child ID wristbands, sponsored by Children's Dental Group, will be available on Fri., Aug. 1, and Sat. and Sun., Aug. 2, 3, 9 and 10. The first 1,600 children on each of these days will be given wristbands. Parents can write emergency contact information on the inside of the wristbands.

The California Lottery and Milk Advisory Board are hosting a "Moo If You Love California Contest" at the Kelly Court Stage on Fri., Aug. 1 and 8.

Porker Flats will host the Turkey Stampede and Valentine's Performing Pigs, which will perform tricks in skateboarding, bowling and dancing.
