This Kung Fu Hits Home

Gus Gates opened his kung fu studio in Agoura Hills in 1998. "The Village" has now grown to become the largest kung fu school in the Conejo Valley.

The goal of kung fu is to build powerful minds and bodies, and awaken one's spirit while learning to defend oneself. Gates considers it a personal obligation to educate his students about this 1,500- year-old martial art form. As a result of the community's growing interest in kung fu, Gates is now offering a new program, taihe.

Taihe (tai-hoo), inspired by Gates' travels and training in China, is a martial arts class where people can learn relaxation and breathing techniques while gaining emotional strength and empowerment. Students will also learn life refining skills through the moving form of mediation.
