Woman earns doctorate despite medical challenges

      Studying for a doctorate is challenging enough, but Barbara Semel Parkhurst of Oak Park earned her degree at the same time she was undergoing multiple surgeries for a near fatal brain aneurysm. Parkhust, 55, recently graduated from California Lutheran University with her health intact.

Support group slated for parents who have lost an infant
      A support group for those who have suffered pregnancy or infant loss meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Hospice of the Conejo, 80 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. The group is led by Dr. Beth Haynes, who had devoted her time to studying grief after the loss of her first baby.
