Montana's son transfers to Oaks Christian

Oaks Christian head coach Bill Redell has confirmed that junior quarterback Nick Montana, son of NFL Hall-of-Famer Joe Montana, has transferred to the football powerhouse.

Montana previously attended De La Salle in Concord.

Redell said he was surprised when he found out Montana would be attending OCHS.

"I read that if he was going anywhere in the area, it was Newbury Park High, so I was quite shocked when I found out he was coming here," Redell said.

"The Montana's were thinking about coming to Oaks Christian two years ago, but that was the last I had heard from them."

Although Montana is now a Lion, he isn't necessarily the team's starter behind center.

Oaks Christian also has St. Bonaventure transfer Tony Macarena at quarterback.

Last season, Macarena completed 51-of-79 passes for 733 yards and five touchdowns for the Seraphs. Montana didn't play on the varsity squad at De La Salle a year ago.

"I took my quarterbacks aside in practice and assured them that the guy that plays the best in practice will get the starting job," Redell said.

"If I had to name a starter now, it would be Macarena because he's attended spring and summer practice. In the next couple weeks, however, that can all change."
