Oak Park 'friends' supports school district

      Friends of Oak Park Schools will donate $103,000 to the Oak Park school district for the 2008-09 school year. The money will fund a district science specialist for the second year. Although the elementary school science program will continue, more emphasis will be placed on reaching middle and high school students, said Friends Chair Barry Myerson.

Oak Park parents save Chinese class

      A tight school budget has spurred one group of Oak Park parents into action. After Oak Park High school eliminated its Chinese I class from the fall schedule in order to save costs, parents made the necessary donations to retain the program. Supporters have so far raised $12,000 toward the $13,200 needed to fund one Chinese language class.

Lindero student wins band award
      BLOW YOUR HORN- Brian Tamsut, a trumpet player at Lindero Canyon Middle School, won the school's 2008 Band Award. Brian has played in Lindero's Cougar Band, Concert Band, Jazz B, Jazz A and Jazz Combo bands, and was recogized as a soloist at the Reno Jazz Festival and Westlake High Jazz Festival.
