Water board appointment is well-deserved

Congratulations to former Agoura/Conejo Valley Chamber President Alex Soteras for his recent appointment by Gov. Schwarzenegger to the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board.

Alex and the Soteras family have been involved in numerous causes throughout Southern California for many years. He currently serves as director of the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley. He is also a board member of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA and a board member of Pepperdine University, and he has served as a trustee of L.A. County's $30-billion Retirement Pension fund.

Most notable, as past president of the Agoura/Oak Park/ Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, Alex's skills and leadership helped enrich the business community of our region.

Given the current water quality issues facing our communities, his appointment comes at a time when having a local representative on such an important water quality governing board is vital to all the cities in our area. Barry Groveman Calabasas Groveman is a member of the Calabasas City Council
