Camp lets kids explore local nature
CUT UP- Campers share some laughs as they learn the nuts and bolts of geology, ecology, biology and American Indian traditions during the Mountains Restoration Trust Discovery Nature Camp. The one-week sessions take place at Headwaters Corner in Calabasas. The Mountains Restorations Trust Discovery Nature Camp this month and next month will introduce children ages 8 to 12 to the wonders of nature.
The one-week sessions give kids a firsthand glimpse into the workings of geology, ecology, biology and American Indian cultural tradition.
The day camp focuses on different themes in nature and includes day hikes, adventure hunts, guest speakers, animal study, nature crafts, and lab sessions with real scientific tools.
The activities will take place in the shady setting of Headwaters Corner at Calabasas in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The sessions are July 21- 24 for paleontology, outdoor survival, insect study and a Malibu Lagoon field trip. The Aug. 18- 21session includes geology, birds, mammals and a second lagoon field trip.
"Our program inspires children while providing adventure. Our goal is to provide a fun setting where children learn to appreciate nature and provide good stewardship for protecting our environment" said Susan Haugland, camp director.
