Oak Park prepares for Night Out Against Crime

Oak Park is preparing for the third annual National Night Out Against Crime on Sat., Aug. 2.

Several neighborhoods will host representatives from local departments and boards including sheriff's, fire, recreation and parks departments as well as supervisors and school board members. The sheriff's department will send representatives from the K-9, bomb and SWAT units.

Representatives will stop by between 5 to 7:30 p.m. Neighborhoods can set up chairs and potlucks in their front yards to hold get-togethers.

Residents of nonparticipating neighborhoods can join a party from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the home of Jay and Linda Kapitz, 6481 Smoketree Ave. and are asked to bring a small potluck item.

National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen neighborhoods through policecommunity partnerships. The goal is to build support for anticrime and anti-drug programs.

For information or to make a reservation for the Kapitz's party, call Jay Kapitz at (818) 889-1039 or e-mail j_kapitz@yahoo.com.
