Local teams turning Conejo Valley into Titletown
     TURBOCHARGED- The SoCal Jets U-14 softball squad won a state championship in Menifee, finishing first out of 72 teams. The victory clinched a berth in the National Championship Tournament, which will be held in Midland, Texas, in August.       If local fans want to catch a Major League Soccer game in person, all they have to do is take the 405 Freeway to Home Depot Center to see the Los Angeles Galaxy play. If those fans want to get a possible glimpse at the team's future, the drive is much shorter.

Little League All-Star tournaments underway
      The bunting is up, the chatter is loud, the fields are in tiptop condition, work schedules have been altered, and the bracketologists are putting in nearly as many hours as the volunteers at the snack shack. It takes an entire community effort- or communities' efforts, to be more precise- to coordinate the Little League District 13 AllStar baseball playoffs.

Tennis players vying for titles at Westlake USTA event
      For tennis players age 45 and over, there was only one place to be this week- the Westlake Tennis and Swim Club. One hundred forty tennis players competed in the K-Swiss United States Tennis Association National Men's 45 Hard Court Championships.

Wynalda schools kids in the art of fĂștbol
     WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers GIVING BACK- USA soccer star and Westlake High grad Eric Wynalda, right, runs drills with young players Tuesday at Freedom Park in Camarillo. The former WHS standout is conducting the Wynalda Soccer Academy through the summer with stops in cities around Southern California. The youth camp works to teach kids to have a positive attitude, a good work ethic, team work and to build a foundation of fundamental soccer skills. The Academy is located in Westlake.
