Oak Park students earn honor

Five Oak Park students earned the State Award for High Honors from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.

Medea Creek Middle School students Dylan Shapiro, Jerren Chiu, Michael Ebert and Eden Weizman, all seventh-graders, and Steffan Kim, an eighthgrader, were awarded the honor for being among the highest scorers on the SAT or ACT in their age group in California in 2008, according to Kristin Shapiro, Dylan's mom.

The program seeks to identify high-achieving youth. Upon passing, participants are eligible for a variety of enrichment and academic programs offered through Johns Hopkins.

The students were honored, along with other winners, at a reception at California State University Los Angeles.
