Man attacked at knifepoint in Old Agoura

By Stephanie Bertholdo bertholdo@theacorn.com

An Old Agoura resident was attacked June 2 on Driver Avenue by three young males, according to the victim's neighbor, who called the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station for help.

Connie Cunningham, a resident of the apartment complex at 5323 Colodny Drive, said her neighbor, a man who doesn't speak English, asked her to call the sheriff after he was attacked by the men, including one with a knife.

Cunningham, 43, said her boyfriend, who did not want his name released, translated the man's story. The man, who lives with four roommates above Cunningham's unit, said he was walking on Driver Avenue near Colodny at around 4 p.m. on June 2 when three Caucasian men in their early 20s approached him and demanded money. When the man refused to cooperate, he was attacked, she said.

"His shirt was slashed; his pinkie finger was all cut up really bad, and he had a slight puncture wound on his left arm," Cunningham said.

Although Cunningham said she didn't gather all the details because of the language barrier, she was told the man's roommate had been attacked in a similar fashion in May but he didn't report the incident to the police.

"I was freaked out," Cunningham said. "There are so many women who walk their babies, dogs or jog."

A helicopter was deployed from Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, and four police cars arrived at the scene to interview the victim.

The fire department and an ambulance also came, but the man apparently did not want to go to the hospital. A neighbor who works as a nurse treated the man's wounds at the site.

Lt. Robert Lewis said additional facts about the case could not be released because a criminal investigation is ongoing.

"People should be made aware of it because there's danger," Cunningham said. "That's pretty brazen- (an attack) at 4 p.m. with a butcher knife."

She said an immigrant was targeted perhaps because he was less likely to report the incident to the police.
