Former Agoura High students to perform at Four Seasons

The Danny Janklow Quartet, which includes two former Agoura High School students, will perform at the "Summer in the Southland" event Sat., July 5 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village.

The quartet will perform a variety of jazz favorites at the Waterfall Lawn at Hampton's while Four Seasons chefs serve a buffet of Southern-style ribs, chicken and other traditional dishes.

The afternoon event will feature an All-American tribute to commemorate Independence Day, said Danny Janklow, 19.

Janklow graduated from Agoura High in 2007. He completed his first year at Temple University Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia and is back in Agoura Hills for the summer. He plays the saxophone, clarinet and flute.

"We look forward to just making the July Fourth celebration really special and authentic and (keeping with) the American tradition," Janklow said.

Eric Lamm, who graduated from Agoura High on June 19, plays double bass with the quartet. He will begin his freshman year at The Juilliard School in New York in August. Lamm was awarded a large scholarship.

Joining Janklow and Lamm are drummer Rob Martino and pianist Joel Scott. Martino will fly in from Philadelphia to perform at the event.

Janklow recently recorded an album with Ray Brown Jr., the son of jazz artist Ella Fitzgerald and bass player Ray Brown. The "Friends and Family" album is expected to be released later this year.

"It was phenomenal to meet all the famous and historical musicians that came through the studio," Janklow said. The starstudded album features musicians James Moody, David "Fathead" Newman, Freda Payne and many others.

A member of the Temple University Jazz Band, Janklow has performed in many countries and with many well-known jazz singers and musicians. He recently went to Holland where he performed with trumpeter Nick Payton and saxophonist Branford Marsalis. Next year, Janklow says, he'll perform with another member of the Marsalis family- Wynton Marsalis, a composer and trumpet player. In September, Janklow will perform with Benny Golson at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Golson is a composer, arranger, lyricist, producer and tenor saxophonist.

The Four Seasons barbecue buffet will run from noon to 2 p.m. The Janklow Quartet will perform from 6 to 10 p.m. in the hotel's lobby lounge, and the quartet will be featured at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City at 8 p.m. on Sun., July 27.

The cost for the barbecue is $40 per adult and $20 per child.

The Four Seasons Hotel is at Two Dole Drive, Westlake Village.
