Popular insurance agent returns from retirement

Don Liebman Longtime Conejo Valley businessman Don Liebman left the working world last year, but he couldn't stay away for long.

The Westlake Village resident had provided families and businesses with homeowners, auto and life insurance policies, creating one of the topselling State Farm agencies in the country. He retired from his Oak Park-based agency in March 2007.

"For a year I played golf, but intellectually I was bored," said the 65-year-old Liebman.

Though retired, he worked as a consultant for Hill Financial Partners and Manchester Financial of Westlake Village, and continued receiving calls from customers and their friends asking for advice about different types of coverage.

Liebman also battled Parkinson's disease during his sabbatical, but says the disease is now under control and that he's able to enjoy all of his hobbies, including playing golf and softball and working out in the gym. He provides support to other Parkinson's patients, offering advice and participating in fundraising efforts.

Liebman reinstated his sales license and, in May, opened an office at 2815 Townsgate Road in Westlake Village. He now works 10 to 15 hours a week providing customers with life and health insurance coverage.

"I have a 36-year history in the community," Liebman said. "On my one-year anniversary of retiring I received over 100 calls from former clients and wellwishers."

He is enjoying working with many of those customers again, he said.

"Every insurance policy is different. They are customized based on what a person's needs are," Liebman said. "Can you imagine somebody living in Westlake or Agoura, with three kids and an $800,000 mortgage, who suddenly dies? The family is not going to be able to pay the mortgage; the kids can't go to college."

Liebman helps people "create an estate with the stroke of a pen" so that families "can live free and clear." His average policy is more than $1 million, but many can be obtained for as little as $30 to $50 a month.

"Don Liebman is an honest, thoughtful, highly competent and knowledgeable insurance advisor," said Chuch Frandson, of Sherman Oaks, for whom Liebman has provided personal, family and business insurance for over 40 years.

Liebman opened his first Conejo Valley insurance office in 1971 in the Whizin's Center on Roadside Drive in Agoura. He relocated in 1979 to the Ralphs shopping center on Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Kanan Road, where he remained until 1999, when he moved his office to Lindero Canyon and Kanan roads in Oak Park before he retired last year.
