Coordinate lights, save gasoline

With gas prices going up every day and no end in sight, what can be done to help conserve gasoline? How much time do we sit waiting at stoplights, idling away that now expensive commodity, going nowhere, plus destroying the environment? My question is where are the traffic engineers who set the timing of the traffic lights in Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Westlake, and Thousand Oaks and are these people doing their jobs?

There are numerous streets where the timing of the lights is consistently off. You can drive down a major street and hit almost every red light. Why are these lights not synchronized on these major streets? I know these engineers will say they are and at some intersections they have even installed cameras to help alleviate the problem, but when was the last time they actually drove these streets?

In my opinion, the worse culprits are Kanan Road north and south between Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Agoura Road: The Kanan interchange is still not working like our city officials stated it would. Lindero Canyon between Agoura Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard: It seems like you can always hit the light at Via Colinas. Thousand Oaks Boulevard between Lindero Canyon and Moorpark Road: It is amazing how you can hit so many red lights on this stretch. Avenida De Los Arboles between Westlake Boulevard and the 23 Freeway: Even a less traveled street such as Hillcrest between Erbes and Moorpark Road is out of sync.

Let's get the traffic engineers out of their offices and onto the roads. They need to drive these roads monthly and see with their own eyes the cars idling away gas at the red lights and then fix the problem.

I will be glad to go for a drive with them (their car of course) any time they would like. Craig Kronfeld Oak Park
