Backlash against environmentalists

Between laughing and crying, I was struck by your recent article about the proposed Agoura Village plan threatening species and the letter to the editor about Calabasas leadership. Without a doubt, the environmentalist loonies are keeping Agoura from prospering while preserving their own selfish interests living in their multimillion dollar Cornell area homes. A classic case of NIMBY (Not In My Backyard), but that has apparently always been the case in the Conejo Valley.

Instead of bringing us a great multi-use development that might actually reduce our gas usage and carbon emissions, we have to drive to Westlake or Calabasas to visit The Commons or Promenade. But, as Toby Keeler courageously calls it, in Calabasas we can count on "Big Brother" to tell us where to park our RVs, not to smoke anywhere (regardless of the false science behind all the second-hand smoke hysteria), and the City Council to fund whatever special interest groups meet their over-the-top PC and green beliefs. It's nonsense.

The hypocrisy of so many of these so-called green activists and environmentalists only reminds me of the greatest hypocrite of them all, Al Gore, who recently upgraded his estate to be more eco-friendly, only to result in an additional 10 percent energy use when his usage already could power over 200 "average" American homes for a month. Yeah, he's the man to listen to and the City Council of Calabasas really has our best interests at heart, while the few neighbors that might be impacted pull the classic NIMBY holierthanthou political shenanigans to prevent legitimate improvements to our community.
