There's a new deputy in town The Calabasas City Council is adding a new deputy to work primarily with teenagers in the city. The new deputy will focus on Calabasas High School and the middle schools, as well as The Commons and the new Calabasas Civic Center on weekends. After school, on weekends and in the evening, the deputy's presence at the shopping center and civic center will ensure compliance to the rules and a safe environment. "The new officer will enhance the Sheriff's Department's ability to keep our schools and commercial areas safe for our children and benefit the community as a whole," said Calabasas Mayor Pro Tem Jonathon Wolfson. The Lost Hills Sheriff's Station has five deputies dedicated to the Juvenile Intervention Team. The JTeam works with youth across the five cities and unincorporated areas under the station's jurisdiction. "The main goal is to be proactive in resolving problems before they escalate," said Capt. Tom Martin. "Having a more continuous presence on school campuses allows the deputy to interact with and to help student with issues that would otherwise spiral out of control." Funding for the new deputy will be formally approved on Aug. 6. For details, call the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station at (818) 878-1808. |
