Milk mobile to stop in Calabasas The Milk Mustache Mobile tour will make a local stop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thurs., June 26 at Gelson's Market in Calabasas. To recognize the role of mothers in their family's nutrition, the nation's milk processors are joining forces with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Project MOM in a nationwide search for a "Chief Health Officer." Local families will have a chance to nominate their mothers for the award. Mom is a key player in making smart food and beverage choices for her family. The dairy industry says, drink more milk. "It's important to help kids stay physically active and offer nutritious foods and beverages, like milk, to avoid unhealthy weight gain and minimize future health risks," said pediatrician Frank Greer, chairman of the AAP committee on nutrition. The milk tour invites Calabasas residents to record a 30-second "mom-ination" video explaining why their mother or a mom they know should be the city's Chief Health Officer. The winning Calabasas mom will have a chance to win the national crown and appear in her own Milk Mustache ad, and receive a year's supply of milk and a threemonth membership to the Curves International fitness program. The mothers also will be eligible to receive a $100,000 "salary." With 30 percent of Los Angeles County's children overweight or obese, local mothers play a significant role in encouraging good eating and drinking habits, the milk industry said.
