Program will examine adult ADD Attentiondeficit disorder is often considered a problem that affects only children, but according to experts, kids who have ADD carry their symptoms into adulthood, at which point the condition presents a new set of challenges. The Conejo Valley Mental Health Professionals Association will examine adult ADD and its effect on five dimensions of life at its monthly "Meet and Greet" on Fri., June 6 at the Teen Scene Outpatient Program, 30343 Canwood St., Ste. 208A, in Agoura Hills. The free lunchtime program runs from noon to 1 p.m. Susan Tschudi, a licensed marriage and family therapist who will lead the discussion, said inattentiveness, restlessness and impulsivity can emerge in all aspects of life for an adult with ADD. Clues to the disorder are often difficult to understand, Tschudi said. In the workshop, she aims to examine how ADD can affect a person's personal, physical, relational, emotional and spiritual life. The talk will offer insight into the disorder and provide treatment options. Adults with ADD often have difficulty understanding their own actions and are equally misunderstood by family members, co-workers and friends, Tschudi said. Tschudi is a therapist with Family Phases Counseling in Westlake Village. In addition to specializing in adult ADD, she helps individuals, couples and families understand how their thoughts affect their feelings and behaviors. She said her approach helps people better handle everyday problems and access resources for ongoing change. She has been a guest speaker on the subject in local venues as well as internationally. The monthly "Meet and Greet" sessions offer an opportunity for learning from and networking with mental health professionals. The association's meetings are generally scheduled for the first Friday of the month. There is no charge to attend and no RSVP is necessary. Participants are welcome to bring a lunch to eat during the meeting, said Judy Wiener, a licensed clinical social worker and member of the association.
