Viewpoint softball team wins its first CIF-SS title

      It turns out the third time really can be the charm. On Saturday afternoon at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine, the Viewpoint softball team defeated Liberty League rival Faith Baptist 21 for the CIFSouthern Section Division VII championship.

Agoura's Stock named MVP
      The Agoura High baseball team handed out its season awards at the program's annual banquet on May 28. Catcher Richard Stock, a junior, was the team MVP after batting .432 while hitting six home runs in his last seven games.

      The dream of making the College World Series lives on for a handful of former area baseball standouts. Before they can make plans to be in Omaha, Neb., on June 14 for the start of the CWS, however, there's still some work to be done in the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend.

      Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft begins today at 11 a.m. from Disney's Milk House in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The first day of the two-day event will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and MLB.com.

      The high school season may be over, but award season is just getting underway. Area athletes are now being honored for their work during the spring sports campaign. In the Tri-Valley League, Oak Park High senior Adam Quinn is the MVP of boys' volleyball. His dad, Patrick Quinn, is the Coach of the Year.
