Westlake plans expanded hazardous waste program

The city of Westlake Village will discontinue its motor oil collection program at Berneice Bennett Park on the fourth Saturday of each month. Sat., June 28 will be the last collection event.

In its place, an expanded doortodoor household hazardous waste collection service will be offered to city residents.

Numerous items are identified by California state law as unacceptable for normal landfill disposal. In response, the city recently launched a biannual door-to-door household hazardous waste pickup program designed to collect and properly dispose of used motor oil, paints and pesticides.

The city plans to offer the service on a quarterly schedule and expand the types of materials collected to include inoperative or obsolete televisions, computers, printers, small appliances, cellphones and fluorescent tubes. There is no charge for the pick-ups, which can be scheduled by calling (800) 5794979.

•Westlake Village is inviting city residents to participate in a focus group meeting to determine how the city may improve its communications with residents. The meeting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thurs., June 12 in the community room at the Westlake Village Civic Center, 31200 Oak Crest Drive, Westlake Village.

The meeting will assess which city programs most impact residents on a regular basis, what types of information residents want communicated and how the city can more effectively reach residents with the information they need.

Light refreshments will be provided. Call (818) 706-1613.
