Westlake Village Scout accepts rank of Eagle

Max Kassan Max Kassan Malibou Lake resident Max Kassan was one of several new Eagle Scouts honored at the recent Boy Scouts of America annual recognition dinner. Kassan is a member of Troop 485 in Westlake Village and a junior at Agoura High School.

To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, boys learn outdoor camping and survial skills, first aid, emergency preparedness, personal fitness and money management. In addition, they complete a community service project to demonstrate leadership ability.

Kassan's project consisted of collecting donations for care packages, leading a letter-writing campaign which resulted in 300 letters sent to military personnel serving overseas, and bringing 40 people to Operation Gratitude's packaging days to help assemble 10,000 care packages.

This summer Kassan will work at Emerald Bay summer camp on Catalina Island, fixing bikes and leading mountain bike rides.

He will receive his Eagle Scout award in a Court of Honor ceremony Sun., June 21.
