The Acorn honor role

Viewpoint School senior

Amanda Martin has been selected to receive a $1,000 NFIB/ Visa Young Entrepreneur Award. Martin is one of 400 high school seniors nationwide to be recognized by the National Federation of Independent Business Foundation for their impressive independent business activities and their entrepreneurial spirit.

In 2004, Martin founded a successful jewelry business called Pick Me that gives 100 percent of its proceeds to a variety of charitable causes. She has donated more than $12,000 to UNICEF, the Heifer Organization, OXFAM, the American Red Cross, and other charities by creating and selling earrings, necklaces, and bracelets made from guitar picks.

At Viewpoint in Calabasas, Amanda is president of the school's Community Service Honor Society, leads an annual "Campaign Against Tobacco" week, and established the school's chapter of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). She will attend Kenyon College in the fall.
