Oak Park student to attend conference

'The Talon' editor heads to New York

Erica Steiner, a junior at Oak Park High School, has been selected to attend this year's Congressional Student Leadership Conference on media and journalism.

The conference is a college-accredited invitational leadership program sponsored by LeadAmerica for academically talented students from across the United States and around the world.

The conference is a 10-day program in which students explore print, broadcast and digital media. It is held at Columbia University in New York and includes leadership workshops as well as lectures and discussions with leading journalists, media figures and educators.

Steiner is an editor for Oak Park High School's student newspaper, The Talon, and has written articles about the impact prospective state budget cuts will have on education in the area.

She said she is looking forward to seeing how she can "stack up against the other top young journalists."
