City Calendar The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services announces the upcoming events. Unless otherwise noted, all programs take place at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd. For more information on any event, call (818) 597-7361. •An Italian excursion club for adults will take place at 6 p.m. Tues., June 10 and Sat., June 28. The June 10 event will be an outing to an Italian restaurant. A trip to the Getty Villa will take place on June 28. Both excursions will be led by Italian instructor Lynn Metrow. Cost is $8 per trip. Participants should expect to pay an additional $15 to $20 for dinner. Transportation will be provided by the Agoura Hills City Shuttle. •Applications are being accepted for the Teen VIP- Teen Volunteer Program for teens ages 11 to 17. The program is designed to give individuals onthejob experience. Participants may volunteer for activities such as recreational classes, office work, camps and special events. Applications are available at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center and must be received by 4 p.m. Fri., June 13. There is a mandatory orientation meeting at noon Sat., June 21. Cost is $20, which includes a Tshirt, VIP manual and fingerprinting. •Two sports camps for children ages 9 to 14 will be offered during the summer. Basketball Camp is a oneday workshop for ages 11 to 14 and will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mon., June 16 at the Agoura Hills High School gymnasium, 38545 Driver Ave. Football Camp is week-long class for ages 9 to 14 and will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Mon., July 28 to Fri., Aug. 1 at the Agoura Hills football field. Cost of the basketball workshop is $50. The football camp fee is $200. Space for both classes is limited. •A mature drivers training class for seniors will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tues., July 8. The program is a defensive driving course taught by Sy Rifkin. It can help seniors qualify for reduced auto insurance rates. Cost is $12 for Senior Center registrants and $14 for nonregistrants. •An ongoing PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise) class for seniors is held Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. The class is co-sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation and includes accommodations for individual limitations. Activities are designed to improve certain physical parameters such as endurance and joint motion. Class fee is $10 per month. |
