Calabasas picks members for Historic Preservation Commission Calabasas City Council members have appointed their nominees for the city's newly created Historic Preservation Commission. Judy Jordan, Kim Lamorie, Victor Pesiri, Taryn Wayne and Debra Bruschaber make up the commission, although there is still one vacancy. Councilmember Barry Groveman has not made his nomination yet. Jordan has served four terms on the Las Virgenes School Board, and Lamorie is the vice president of the Las Virgenes Federation Homeowners Association and sits on the GPAC. Wayne is vice president of the Calabasas Historical Society, and Bruschaber is president. He is also coexecutive director of the Mountains Restoration Trust. Pesiri is a member of the American Institute of Architects. The committee will be responsible for identifying and protecting Calabasas' historical resources and heritage by recommending properties for designation as historic and reviewing alterations to such properties to ensure they keep architectural character and historic integrity, said Mayor Mary Sue Maurer. The group had their first meeting recently and named Wayne chair and Pesiri vice chair. The group also decided they would ask the City Council to proclaim May "Historic Preservation Month." "We gave the group a lot of background information and kind of told them where we were going with the process," said senior planner Geoff Starns, the city's liaison. The commission's next meeting is scheduled for July 9. |
