Agoura High to host college workshop for parents

Agoura High School will host a college workshop for parents on Tues., May 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the G building.

College admissions counselor and author Danny Ruderman will offer tips and strategies on how students can showcase their strengths for admittance into private universities and colleges in the UC system.

The free workshop is recommended for parents of ninth-, 10th- and 11th-grade students. Parents will learn how to find colleges that best match their child's interests, including art, music and performing arts schools.

Ruderman will also highlight colleges for students with learning disabilities, and for students withlessthanaBgradepointaverage.

Parents will also learn how to pay for college through scholarships and financial aid.

Ruderman opened Enlighten Learning Inc. in 1997. The firm offers tutoring services, test preparation and college admission counseling to students.

Ruderman graduated from Stanford University with honors and holds a degree in human biology with an emphasis in education. He has worked as an educational therapist for K&M Associates in Los Angeles and as a standardized test instructor for Ivy West.

A member of the Western Association of College Admissions Counselors, Ruderman has been featured on television and radio programs and in the Los Angeles Times.
